The Big “C” – A Journey I Never Expected By Sebolai Cedric Molefe

Cancer—the word I never thought I’d have to hear, let alone face. Yet, on Monday, March 24, 2025, my doctor delivered the news: I have Stage 2 Prostate Cancer. Hearing those words was a profound shock. As he explained the next steps, I found myself unable to process anything he was saying. It was as if time stood still.

Thankfully, my incredible wife was there with me, absorbing every detail, asking the right questions, and ensuring that nothing was overlooked. Her unwavering support in that moment—and every moment since—has been a blessing beyond words. I am profoundly grateful to have her by my side, and though I may never be able to fully repay her, I will spend every day showing her my love and appreciation.

At 45 years old, I have always taken pride in maintaining a healthy lifestyle—regular exercise, mindful eating, and staying active. Naturally, the question crossed my mind: Why me? But just as quickly, I reminded myself—Why not me? Life doesn’t always follow a predictable path, and while this diagnosis is a challenge, it does not define me.

I have so much more life to live, so much more to fight for—my incredible wife and our three beautiful sons. I want to see them grow, succeed, and one day walk down the aisle to start families of their own. That vision alone fuels my determination.

Giving up is not an option. This journey will test me, but I am ready to face it head-on. With faith, resilience, and the unwavering support of my loved ones, I will conquer this. The “Big C” may have entered my life, but it will never define my story.
